Located on the Caribbean Sea, Ustupu is one of the 337 islands that form the magnificent Comarca of San Blas with 337 islands, in which most are uninhabited. Most of the Kunas that live on these islands still keep their traditional lifestyle; women wear skirts and true color blouses decorated with their famous molas, a genuine expression of indian art. Women also wear noserings as a symbol of wedlock.
With a population of approximately 8,000 habitants, Ustupu is the most populated island in the Comarca, however it is the least visited by tourists. To Ustupu, we take a one hour flight and then travel to the island in a dugout canoe. No trekking is required. The island has received influence of the outside world due to their trade of coconuts, famous Molas and other handcrafts. There is a school and even a Panamanian National Police station. Spanish speaking natives can be found, but since the island is seldom visited by tourists, the exciting encounters are still present.

Located in the heart of the Darien National Park, Uala is totally isolated from all modern amenities and has a population of approximately 1000 indians. Because of it's difficult accessibility, the village has almost no communication with the modern world, their culture and traditional way of life practically was kept the same as in the past.  . Only a few of the natives speak Spanish. Even though the community is of the Kuna culture, it's customs are slightly different from those of the island communities.
