What is the currency in Panama?  How much money should I bring with me?

The Panama currency is the Balboa and has the same value as the dollar.  There are no Balboa bills, only coins.  Dollars bills are used instead.  Also, all major credit cards are accepted.
The expedition package includes all transportation, accommodations and meals from day 1 to day 13.
We don't include in the package airport tax ($20.00), international calls, shopping in Panama and souvenirs in the Indian villages or extra nights/tours in the city.
Average: Hotels $40-$80 night / Restaurants $5-$15 meal / Taxi $1-$2 city, to airport $15.

What other activities and tours can be found in Panama?

In Panama there are many restaurants, different cuisines, also casinos and bars are popular.
Among the sport activities there is deep water fishing, snorkel & scuba diving, surfing, white water rafting, golf, bowling, etc.  Places to visit: Panama Canal, Colon Free Zone, Portobelo, Isla Grande, Contadora Island, Taboga Island, Cerro Punta, Volcan Baru, Bocas Del Toro, El Valle, etc....

What kind of clothing or gear/equipment should I bring to the expedition?

At the night of arrival, you will receive all the personal gear you will need for the journey.  Boots are the only item not included, since its the most essential and delicate.  We recommend that you use the boots prior the expedition to be sure they are comfortable and don't hurt you in any way.

Should I bring cameras or video?

You can bring cameras to the expedition, but because of the high humidity in the rainforest, we advise you to bring a plastic housing used for diving and silicone pouch.  Same care for video equipment, plus extra batteries (batteries loose their charge fast in the humid climate).

What dangers will be encountered?

As most jungles, snakes are the most common, also the Jabali (wild boar) and the Jaguar are considered dangerous.  However, these animals usually barge at the sight of groups of people.  The expedition guide and the Indian guide carry firearms for protection.

Will there be any communication with civilization during the expedition?

There will be some phone booths on the main island of Ustupu (Caribbean side), but as we cross to the mainland and into the jungle, there will be no communication until we reach the Panamerican Highway, where phone booths can be found in some places.

Can kids participate in the expedition?

Teenagers over 15 can participate only if accompanied by their parents, kids under 15 are not allowed.

Can we trade gifts with the Indian's?

Yes, the Indians like to exchange souvenirs.  Jaguar and Wild Boar tooth are very common, also old coins of the XIX century can be found, but they are more likely to ask for money, so bring some extra cash to shop around in the villages.
