The ATLAPAC expedition started in 1991 as a group of adventurers seeking new thrills, decided to challenge themselves by crossing the Panama isthmus through its wildest side, the unexplored jungles of Darien.
Since then, other expeditions were made following different routes in the Darien Jungle.

Finally, the ATLAPAC route was established, for it was the most exciting and challenging of them all.
Today, ATLAPAC offers an exclusive and unique expedition, where the challenge of jungle survival is combined with the exploration of new experiences.

You will get to meet and practically live with real Indian natives,
in a land where time seems to stand still,  where natives villages still live with very limited contact with modern civilization.

During this expedition you will
encounter two different cultures.
The Kuna Indians of San Blas on the Caribbean side, and the Wounans, living on the mainland.

Also in the package, is a lifetime memories,
as we include pictures taken by our professional photographers,
and a video of the complete expedition.
These and many more are part
of the service you will experience in ATLAPAC.

We provide our excursionists with an exciting cultural encounter with a true aborigine culture, much like the experience and excitement the discoverers of these lands must have felt.
Our main ATLAPAC Expedition is a unique jungle adventure designed to emulate the feat of Spanish Conquistador Vasco Nuņez de Balboa, when he crossed the Isthmus of Panama, from the Atlantic Ocean through the Darien Jungle and discovered the South Sea (Pacific Ocean) in 1513.

We are committed to preserve the environment we visit exactly as we found it.  But together with environmental conservation, ATLAPAC Expeditions takes special interest in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the natives.
We strongly support the native villages and repeatedly emphasize that they need to keep their traditions (dressing, dancing, way of life, etc.) and that in no way we will alter their customs, since it is in their best interest to keep their ancestral way of life which makes them unique and special.

We, at ATLAPAC Expeditions, have a special understanding of the importance of tourism to the local community and with every expedition, we set aside a percentage that reverts back to the communities we visit.
Most important, we give jobs to the local people and support merchants, specially those that offer native handcrafts, souvenirs and food.

We estimate that for each excursionist, two natives are being directly employed during each expedition.
